Meet The Composer:
Steve Allen's "Moonglow"

The SCA proudly presented another installment in our Meet The Composer series, this time featuring upright bassist and composer Steve Allen discussing his orchestral score for the film Moonglow. Directed by Dennis Christian (Goodbye Paradise), the film stars Milo O'Shea (The Matchmaker), Illeen Brennan (The Last Picture Show), Joanna Cassidy (Blade Runner), and Ione Skye (Say Anything). The film has been picked up by BRI for distribution, and will either be theatrically released or shown on HBO as a feature.

Allen scored 45 minutes of music for the project, which was recorded locally at Studio X with a 42-piece orchestra. He discussed the mechanics and relationships involved in scoring music for a feature film, from spotting to composing to orchestrating to recording. Scenes from the film, with and without music, were viewed and discussed.
