Outboard Gear Demystified /
     Mackie HDR24/96 Demo

A demonstration of the basics of outboard signal processing. Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at GlennSound Studios.

Glenn Lorbiecki of GlennSound Studios
Glenn Lorbiecki, owner and operator of GlennSound Studios, shared his abundant knowledge and years of experience by explaining and demonstrating some of the basics of outboard signal processing. Topics covered included dynamic processing such as EQ, compression, limiting, and gating, encompassing issues from room resonance to analog and digital distortion. Glenn also skillfully parried a barrage of questions ranging from miking a bass to creative vocal processing.

Daniel Moore and Michael Worona of Mackie Design Before Glenn's presentation, Daniel Moore (front) and Michael Worona (back) from Mackie Design demonstrated Mackie's new HDR24/96 hard disk recording unit. The HDR24/96 offers 24 tracks of recording with 192 virtual takes at a 48kHz sampling rate, or 12 tracks with 96 virtual takes at 96kHz. The HDR is a complete recording system: its full-feature editor requires no external computer, so you can plug an SVGA monitor, mouse and keyboard right into the unit. The HDR24/96 Application The rack-mountable system includes swappable hard drives, interoperability with the Mackie Digital 8-bus, and a standard Ethernet interface for file transfer.
