GigaStudio Demo
September 25, 2002 at Microsoft Studios
The SCA membership enjoyed a demo/workshop covering two of
the most exciting tools in the emerging area of software-based sampling:
Tascam's GigaStudio application and the Garritan Orchestral String Library!
These two tools are changing the way many composers work.
Tascam Giga guru Dave Casey and sample library developer Gary Garritan
presented a guided introduction for new users and shared tips and tricks for
those already familiar with the tools.
GigaStudio employs a patented technology that allows samples
to be streamed from your PC's hard drive, instead of being limited
to RAM storage. The result is that you can access up to 160
voice of samples, each over 4 gigabytes in size, allowing a
new level of detail, realism, and sonic quality, all with very low latency.
Gary Garritan has taken full advantage of this technology with the
Garritan Orchestral Strings Library, consisting of 8,500 sampled
string sounds on 16 discs, with over 500 different instrument
patches and combinations.
Gary will explain tips and tricks with playing techniques and
approaches to get the most our of his libraries, using the
comprehensive Articulations and Bowings and multiple dynamics.
