New Works, New Hope
A Benefit Concert for Gilda's Club of Seattle
May 15, 2003 at Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall, Benaroya Hall
The Seattle Composers' Alliance, in partnership with Gilda's Club of Seattle,
presents a concert of new works by SCA composers, performed by local high
school and middle school ensembles. This concert raises funds for Gilda's Club
and the fight against cancer.
This concert is the first in the SCA's new Composer Residency program,
made possible by the partnership with Gilda's Club of Seattle.
Gilda's Club is a natural partner
because of its enthusiasm for the program
and its importance to the community. Almost everyone has been affected by
cancer in some manner. The comfort of patients and their families is the
mission of Gilda's Club, a cause we all can truly identify with. "The program
took on a whole new dimension," states SCA program manager and board member
Geoff Ogle. "When Gilda's Club came on board, the program became a community
service as well as educational outreach and an outlet for composers. It is
such a worthy cause, the synergy is palpable."
Five area high school and middle school string orchestras will participate in
the program. Five SCA members were randomly selected from a pool of interested
composers.

The Seattle Composers Alliance brings local composers together in a non-competitive
atmosphere to share ideas, to publicize the organization through
concerts and other events, and to promote the SCA and the Seattle composers'
community as a whole. For examples of projects by SCA composers, see our
Roll Credits page.
Gilda's Club provides meeting places where men, women, and children living
with cancer and their families and friends can join with others to build
emotional and social support as a supplement to medical care. Free of charge
and non-profit, Gilda's Club offers support and networking groups, lectures,
workshops, and social events in a nonresidential, homelike setting.
