(((( Working with Surround Sound ))))May 1, 2004 at Chroma Sound The Seattle Composers Alliance is proud to present a half-day workshop on composing for and mixing in surround sound. Special guest Gene Radzik (Applications Engineer, Dolby Labs) will be in attendance, as well as Kristoffer Larson (former Dolby Game Audio evangelist, Cranky Pants Games), Dave Howe (engineer and sound designer, Bad Animals), Glenn Lorbecki (composer and engineer, Glenn Sound). SCA President Alistair Hirst (composer and sound designer, Omni Interactive Audio) will moderate. Surround sound is commonplace in most film theatres now, and there are over 36 million 5.1 Channel Dolby Digital decoders in consumer's homes. Xbox, Playstation2, Gamecube and Digital TV support surround sound. High resolution surround sound is available in SACD and DVD-Audio format, and the 2004 Acura TL features a sound system that plays back multi-channel DVD-Audio. If your next client asks you to deliver your project in surround, will you know how to do that? This comprehensive workshop will be split in to two halves. The morning session will cover all the various technical details involved in studio set up and equipment, mixing and delivering surround mixes, as well as explain all the formats and acronyms (AC3, AAC, DVD-A, DTS-EX, MLP etc.). After a catered lunch, the afternoon session will feature a panel which will discuss the creative issues involved in mixing in surround sound, as well as delivering mixes for film, TV and games that will be mixed with surround sound effects. We will also be listening to examples and analyzing some mixes. Pre-registration is required. Seating is limited, with priority in order of RSVP, with SCA members being notified first. Lunch and beverages will be provided. Please specify if you would prefer a vegetarian lunch, and your membership affiliation so we can confirm it. If you RSVP, please show up. | ||||||||||||||
