Score Salon

The SCA Score Salon debuted in January 2002. The SCA will select an orchestral work from the concert cannon. Participants are then encouraged to purchase the CD and conductor's score so as to study the work independently.

On the night of the Score Salon, the participants will gather to hear a presentation on the work given by an SCA member or conductor from the local performing arts scene. All attendees are then encouraged to share their thoughts and insights on the work in an open discussion forum, a la book-of-the-month club style.

Discussion topics include: orchestration, harmony, form, development, melodic doublings, and context of the work within its period. Discover the nuts and bolts of what makes an orchestral work succeed pleasantly, fail miserably, or rise to the level of immortal status.

All Score Salon readings will be at Bad Animals (2212 4th Ave, 206.443.1500), unless otherwise noted on the SCA Web site, newsletter, or e-mail list.
