SCA Techniques Seminar: Oboe, English Horn, Oboe D’Amore and Bass Oboe

brentThe Seattle Composers Alliance presents an evening with oboe player Brent Hages who will demonstrate articulations and other subtleties of this instrument, as well as the English Horn, Oboe D’Amore and the rare Bass Oboe. The goal is to increase composers’ knowledge of oboe techniques and thereby help improve woodwind solo and section writing. The SCA will be hosting this event at the Chapel at the Good Shepard Center, an ideal space to hear the nuances of these instruments in a live performance environment. Don’t miss this opportunity to improve on this critical compositional skill!

About Brent:
Washington State native Brent Hages received his formal training at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Temple University, studying with James B. Caldwell, Alfred Genovese, and Louis Rosenblatt. Freelancing and private teaching have taken him to Cleveland, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Tennessee, New York, New Jersey, and, currently, Seattle.
Mr. Hages performs with the Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet, the former Bellevue Philharmonic and Bellevue Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet, Yakima Symphony, Wenatchee Symphony, Bellevue Chamber Chorus, and Shoreline Community College theatre productions. Other highlights in recent years include performing with legendary singer Mimi Hines, Idina Menzel, Il Divo, Mannheim Steamroller, and Three Irish Tenors. Mr. Hages has recorded extensively for movie soundtracks.
From 1997 to 2001, he was the principal oboist and administration director of the Las Vegas Music Festival under the musical directorship of another Washington state native and former oboist, Evan Christ. Aside from performing and teaching, he spends his time engaging with his Whippet dogs, collecting vintage recordings, and collecting and restoring the instruments of his former teachers that were used throughout their careers.
